According to EuroNCAP, the Mondeo is a 5 star car, and four star for child occupants.

And his car wasn't obviously a dud, since his airbags worked. And how the hell can you claim insurance money if you crash the car into a bloody tree?

I don't know if this is a scam, or the man is just an idiot...
